Don Duet from Galliano, Louisiana, put on an impressive display of golf to lead the Overall Championship division with a score of three under par, 69. Billy Gabbert of Sulphur, Louisiana is a close second with a score of two under par, 70. Todd Doss of Mandeville, Louisiana, sits in third place at one shot under par, 71. Duet, who has been an active player for many years, is looking to secure his first LGA Championship title. The rest of the field is tightly packed, with several golfers within striking distance heading into day two. With Duet’s impressive track record in this tournament, it will be interesting to see if he can hold onto his lead and ultimately capture the championship title. In the Super Senior Division (ages 65-70), Bill Land of Lafayette is at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 3-under par, 69. Luke Scobel of Hammond, Tim Melancon of Baton Rouge, and Randy Goff of St. Francisville are in a three-way tie for runner-up with a score of one-under par, 71 . The leaderboard was filled with experienced golfers who demonstrated impressive skill and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. This year, the LGA introduced its Legends division for golfers 70 years or older. The LGA is excited for this new division addition as it caters to a large segment of the association. The current leader of this division is Michael Scurria of Denham Springs with a score of even par, 72. Henry Cole of Monroe and Frank Brame of Alexandria are tied for runner-up with scores of 2-over par, 74. Douglas Farr of Saint Joseph and Rick Duet of Shreveport are tied for fourth with a score of 4-over par, 76. The LGA is also thrilled to announce an exciting addition to the championship: the Acadiana Cars-sponsored Hole in One Contest. As the exclusive Bintelli dealer in South Louisiana, Acadiana Cars and the LGA are proud to bring this thrilling opportunity to golf enthusiasts across the region. The Hole in One Contest will unfold over the course of the three-day tournament, offering players three chances to achieve the ultimate golfing feat and drive home in a brand-new, street-legal golf cart courtesy of Bintelli and Acadiana Cars. These stylish vehicles, also known as Low Speed Vehicles (LSVs) or golf cars, provide both functionality and flair on and off the course. Taking place at the Par 3, 8th hole, this contest promises excitement and anticipation with every swing. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their skill and precision, aiming for the chance to be crowned the lucky winner of this coveted prize. There were no winners of the elite cart after the first round, but there are still two days left for players to win the four-wheeled prize! The Louisiana Senior Amateur Championship is a prestigious event that brings together some of the most talented senior golfers from around the state. This year’s championship has drawn a strong field, and the first round has set the stage for an exciting competition. The tournament will continue for the next two days, with the final round scheduled for May 10th. The organizers invite all golf enthusiasts to come and witness the action. The Louisiana Golf Association (LGA), a cornerstone of the state’s golfing community since 1920, remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting amateur golf. With a robust offering of championships, USGA qualifiers, and comprehensive services, the LGA proudly serves over 200 member clubs and 17,000 individual members statewide. **For media inquiries and further information, please contact:** Maili Bartz Director of Marketing and Communications Email: maili@lgagolf.org --- #### Tag: [News](https://blog.lgagolf.org/tag/news) #### Share: - [Follow us on Facebook](http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=https://blog.lgagolf.org/duet-takes-early-lead-in-35th-senior-amateur-championship) - [Follow us on Twitter](https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?url=https://blog.lgagolf.org/duet-takes-early-lead-in-35th-senior-amateur-championship&text=Duet%20Takes%20Early%20Lead%20in%2035th%20Senior%20Amateur%20Championship) - [Follow us on Linkedin](http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=https://blog.lgagolf.org/duet-takes-early-lead-in-35th-senior-amateur-championship) - [Follow us on Pinterest](http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=https://blog.lgagolf.org/duet-takes-early-lead-in-35th-senior-amateur-championship&text=Duet%20Takes%20Early%20Lead%20in%2035th%20Senior%20Amateur%20Championshipdescription=May%208,%202024%20|%20Maili%20Bartz&media=https://23548262.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net/hubfs/23548262/Imported_Blog_Media/IMG_7987.jpg) --- #### [The First Look: 35th Louisiana Senior Amateur Championship Previous Post](https://blog.lgagolf.org/the-first-look-35th-louisiana-senior-amateur-championship) #### [Scobel Claims Victory in Super Senior Division of 35th Louisiana Senior Amateur Championship After Two Playoff Holes Next Post](https://blog.lgagolf.org/scobel-claims-victory-in-super-senior-division-of-35th-louisiana-senior-amateur-championship-after-2-playoff-holes) ### Leave a Reply --- ## Related Posts [News](https://blog.lgagolf.org/tag/news) [Maili Bartz](https://blog.lgagolf.org/author/maili-bartz) 18 August, 2025 #### [A Hole-in-One?
