16 players competed in the second round of the Louisiana Golf Association’s 97th Louisiana Women’s Amateur Championship. This morning’s tee times begin at 7:30 AM off the first tee. The course played to a par 72 at approximately 6,008 yards.
Alexandria, LA - After a full day of match play, the stage is set for the Championship Flight Final at the 97th Louisiana Women’s Amateur Championship. No. 1 seed Jade Neves of New Orleans will face No. 3 seed Abigail McWilliams of Benton in tomorrow’s final match, scheduled for 8:30 AM off Hole 1 at Oakwing Golf Club.
Neves earned her spot with a pair of strong performances on Saturday. She opened with a quarterfinal win over Maci Williams of Brusly in the morning, then held off a late push from Nicole Crochet of Baton Rouge to win 1 up in the semifinals. McWilliams advanced with a morning victory over Julie Harrison of Baton Rouge before delivering a clutch 2 & 1 win over No. 2 seed Shannon Hudson of Vinton in the afternoon. Hudson, who looked sharp in a 6 & 5 quarterfinal win over Mattie Purgahn of Lake Charles, couldn’t maintain momentum against McWilliams.
Tomorrow’s final between Neves and McWilliams brings together two players who have been in control of their games throughout the week. Neves has lived up to her top billing with steady play and smart match management, while McWilliams has shown grit and confidence in back-to-back pressure-filled matches.
In the Flighted Division, finals are also on deck for tomorrow. Grace Goodwin of Bossier City and Marta Bollinger of Alexandria will square off in the First Flight Final after dominant semifinal wins. Goodwin defeated Amanda Rothrock 2 & 1, while Bollinger cruised past Angela Martin 6 & 4.
In the Second Flight, Nancy Conravey of Abita Springs will take on Tina Chin-Griffin of Port Allen. Conravey earned her spot with a 7 & 5 win over Jenny Williams, while Chin-Griffin advanced over Suzanne Tinsley with a score of 5 & 3.
With titles on the line across all flights, Sunday’s final round promises to deliver a strong finish to a competitive week of women’s amateur golf in Louisiana.
