Hudson Greene of Bossier City carded another 66 on Wednesday to take a one-shot lead over Kye Hanks of Lake Charles in the 69th Louisiana Junior Amateur Championship presented by Cajun Country Rice at Santa Maria Golf Course in Baton Rouge. Greene, currently 12-under par for the championship, made a hole-in-one on the par 3 5 th hole today and an eagle on the par 5 18th . Hanks played his first 34 holes of the championship without a bogey, but made back-to-back bogeys to finish his second round on 17 & 18. It’s shaping up to be a two-horse race with 18 holes to go and a spot in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship on the line.
In the 61 st Louisiana Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship presented by Cajun Country Rice, defending champion Maci Williams of Brusly extended her first-round lead after a firing a blistering 66 on Thursday. She made seven birdies and only one bogey in her second round and is currently 11-under par for the championship. Evelynn Artieta of Denham Springs is six shots back at 5-under par. Williams, Artieta, and Jade Neves of New Orleans (-1) will tee off at 8:15 AM on Friday. Those are the only three players under par in the Girls’ Junior Amateur. Marcella Rabalais of Baton Rouge improved by 12 shots on Thursday (81-69).
Landon Lotz of Slidell won the boys 12-13 division at 7-under par (71 / 66).
JJ Hebert of St. Martinville won the 10-11 division at + 16 (85 / 75).
Play in the Overall Boys division was suspended twice on Thursday due to lightning in the area, and play was ultimately suspended for the day due to darkness at 8:10 PM with one group still left to finish their second round. Second round play will resume at 7:30 AM on Friday, and the field will be cut to the low 50 scorers and ties. The Tournament Committee will update final round tee times as soon as possible Friday morning.
