Defending champion Maci Williams of Brusly fired a five-under par, 67 on Wednesday at Santa Maria Golf Club in Baton Rouge. Williams opened with a bogey before rebounding with six birdies and 11 pars during her opening round on her quest to defend her title. She has a three-shot lead over the current Louisiana Women's Amateur Champion, Evelynn Artieta of Denham Springs. Jade Neves of New Orleans also finished under par, carding a 71. There was a two-and-a-half-hour delay for lightning in the boy's championship on Wednesday afternoon. The first round was suspended at 8:13 p.m. due to darkness.
University of Louisiana at Lafayette commit, Kye Hanks of Lake Charles fired a bogey free 65 and has a one-shot lead over Hudson Greene of Bossier City. Hanks birdied holes 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 14, and 18, shooting a 33-32 in route to the seven-under par opening round. Seventeen competitors are under par after 18 holes. Landon Lotz of Slidell leads the 12-13 boy's division after shooting one-under par 71. JJ Hebert of St. Martinville leads the boy's 10-11 division. (85)
Despite getting two inches of rain on Tuesday, the Santa Maria Golf Course was in great shape for this championship. The Louisiana Junior Amateur played to a par 72 at 6,751 yards and the girls played at 5,800 yards. Age group divisions will finish their championship after completing 36 holes on Thursday. The overall boy's division will be cut to the low 50 players and ties following 36 holes. It's setting up for an exciting two more days as the best Junior golfers in our state compete.

Louisiana Junior Amateur Participant, If you did not complete round one, play will resume at 7:30AM. Groups that did not finish their first round will meet an LGA staff member in the scoring area in the clubhouse at 7:15AM to collect scorecards and instructions on how to resume their first round.
