Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana Golf Association is proud to announce that the qualifying fields are officially set for the 106th Louisiana Amateur Championship, scheduled for June 5–8 at Bayou Oaks at City Park (South Course) in New Orleans. This year’s Championship has drawn 258 entries, a strong reflection of the continued growth and competitive spirit of amateur golf in the state.

Bayou Oaks returns as host for the second time, having previously welcomed the Championship in 2020, when John Humphries captured his third Louisiana Amateur title. The Rees Jones-designed layout will once again test the skill, composure, and consistency of Louisiana’s finest amateurs as they compete for the most coveted title in Louisiana golf and an exemption into the 2025 U.S. Amateur at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.

“It’s an honor to once again conduct the best amateur golf championship in the state of Louisiana and continue the tradition that dates back to 1920. We have a stellar field this year and are excited to see who will emerge victorious and earn an exemption into the U.S. Amateur at The Olympic Club. We extend our gratitude to Bayou Oaks at City Park for their generous hospitality and capable cooperation in hosting the 106th Louisiana Amateur Championship.”
— Logan Ray, Executive Director, Louisiana Golf Association

The Rees Jones-designed South Course will shine this week. Since its redesign in 2017, Bayou Oaks has hosted six LGA Championships and three USGA Qualifiers. It is an anchor site for our association, and for good reason! Competitors enjoy the layout and impeccable course conditions. Its setting in the heart of New Orleans and all the city has to offer when you aren't playing golf is a huge draw as well. The last time the State Am was conducted at Bayou Oaks in 2020, John Humphries of Woodworth won his third Amateur Championship, carding rounds of 70-72-70 and a final round 67 to finish at nine-under par 279.

Of the 44 players who earned exemptions into this year’s field, 27 have officially accepted their spots. That leaves 117 places to be filled through sectional qualifying, which is being conducted at eight venues across Louisiana between May 10 and May 22. Once the 144-player field is finalized, competitors will compete in 72 holes of stroke play, with the field being cut to the low 60 scorers and ties after 36 holes.

Defending champion Greg Berthelot of Baton Rouge returns to defend his title after capturing his third Louisiana Amateur victory last summer at The Country Club of Louisiana. Berthelot, also the champion in 2011 and 2022, will be joined by several other past winners: Jake Marler (2023), Grady Brame Jr. (2014, 2015), John Humphries (2003, 2019, 2020), Luke Haskew (2021), and Patrick Christovich (2012). These decorated competitors will headline a field rich with talent, experience, and competitive fire.

From rising stars to veteran contenders, this year’s field reflects the diverse talent across Louisiana’s golf landscape. Thirteen-year-old Micah Biguenet of Baton Rouge is the youngest competitor entered, while 71-year-old Gary Brewster of Metairie is the eldest. The first entry was received on February 1 at 2:57 AM from Matthew Ward, and the final entry came in just three minutes before the deadline from Garrett Sheehan on May 6 at 4:57 PM.

The LGA is once again offering a $100 refund from the $250 entry fee to all players who do not advance through sectional qualifying, reinforcing its commitment to accessibility and value for its members.
