McWilliams & Baronet fired an incredible 11-under par 61, the lowest first round in the history of this championship. They amassed an unbelievable nine birdies and one eagle while going bogey free on the day. Both McWilliams and Baronet are Senior Amateur Champions in their own right (Baronet 2011, 2018; McWilliams 2019) and would have been a betting favorite coming into the weekend. Just one-shot back, last year’s runners-up Bill Land and Eric Lavespere had an impressive day of their own firing a bogey free 10-under par 62, bested by one birdie to the leaders they combined for eight birdies and an eagle en route to their spectacular round.  Rounding out the top five: T3) Bob Cooper/Stan Humphries of Monroe (-8/64), Cade Hebert of Abbeville/David Duhon of St. Martinville, and John Dupont of Houma/Mark Leblanc of Thibodaux. The jam-packed leaderboard will make for an exciting sprint to the finish on Sunday. Other Rounds under par include: (-6/66), Lewis Lauve/Ward LaFleur, Scott Haynie/Bob McCusker, Bart Dornier/Ken Buchan; (-5/67), Keith Breazeale/Mark Herron, Keith Price/Kurt Ostreicher, Billy Joe Tolliver/John Mijalis; (-4/68), Doug Farr/Frank Maxwell, Mark Simoneaux/Patrick Milton, Randy Goff/Steven Inzenga; (-3/69), Randy Moore/Tommy Langlois, Douglas Hobbs/John Pantaleo, Byron Martin/Russell Leblanc; (-2/70), Hal Wright/Terry Hurd, Scott Foreman/Scott Sills, Ben Hargis/Craig Pearce; (-1/71), David Tate/Tim Melancon, Chuck Laudermill/Page Breaux, Chris Queen/Richard Hunter. The LGA also conducted a Super Senior division Championship for those competitors 65 years of age and older.  In that Championship Harold Turner and Mickey McDonald of Shreveport fired a seven-under par 65, and hold a three-shot lead over two-time defending champions Henry Cole of Monroe and Wayne Peddy of Ruston. In a tie for third, at three-under par sit Lew Ward and Scott Rabenhorst of Baton Rouge and Kyle Dejean of Opelousas and Keith Dixon of Madisonville. Sunday should make for an exciting finish with three sides within four shots of the leaders. This year’s Championship is being held at Koasati Pines at Coushatta. After weathering the outer bands of tropical storm Imelda earlier in the week, Golf Course Superintendent Brent Leblanc and his staff had the course in remarkable condition, and the course drew rave reviews from this field of the best Senior players in the state.  It played to a par of 72 at approximately 6,500 yards on Sunday for the Seniors and 6,000 yards for the Super Seniors on what turned out to be a beautiful September day in south Louisiana.   [Click here](https://www.golfgenius.com/pages/1668800) to view results from Round One.
