Monroe, LA – The Louisiana Golf Association (LGA) is proud to kick off the 33rd Louisiana Mid-Amateur Championship, presented by Louisiana National Bank, at Bayou DeSiard Country Club in Monroe, Louisiana. A full field of 156 top amateur golfers, all 21 years of age or older, will compete over 54 holes of stroke play, August 8–10. After Saturday’s second round, the low 60 scorers and ties will advance to Sunday’s final round.
Bayou DeSiard Country Club, a par-72 layout playing approximately 6,900 yards, is hosting the Mid-Amateur for the second time. Its classically designed, tree-lined fairways and championship-caliber greens will challenge even the most seasoned competitors. Superintendent Brandon Johnson and his team have the course in pristine condition despite the August heat.
This year’s championship features a particularly exciting development in eligibility: the LGA has welcomed non-collegiate amateur players between the ages of 21 and 25, a newly opened pathway for young adults who have aged out of college golf but continue to compete at a high level. This adjustment strengthens the bridge between collegiate and mid-amateur competition and ensures broader access to top-tier championship golf in Louisiana.
“Even without qualifying tournaments, the depth and quality of this year’s field is among the best we’ve seen,” said Director of Championships Jacob Oaks. “The response from players across the state was incredible, and Bayou DeSiard will provide a first-class championship experience. We’re excited to bring the Mid-Amateur back to Monroe.”
Notable players in this 21–25 age group include:
- Walt Sartor
- Merrick Rotolo
- Peyton Johnson
- Payne Johnson
- Hunter Battles
Clinton Shepard of Lafayette returns to defend his title following a strong win in 2024. The field also features top performers from past LGA events and USGA national championships, including Greg Berthelot, Josh Fullilove, Jonathan Jeter, Lawrence Allen, John Humphries, and Jason Humphries. Nine of the top ten finishers from 2024 return, joined by several promising newcomers.
Tournament Format & Schedule
- Thursday, August 7 - Practice Rounds
- Friday, August 8 – First Round (18 holes)
- Saturday, August 9 – Second Round (18 holes); Cut to top 60 and ties
- Sunday, August 10 – Final Round (18 holes); Sudden-death playoff if necessary
Gift certificates will be awarded to the top 20 finishers, and the champion will receive a custom crystal trophy. This event is recognized as a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) counting event, with results submitted to the R&A in St. Andrews, Scotland.
There were no local qualifiers for this championship. Instead, exempt players had a one-month priority entry window from April 1–30, with general registration opening May 1. The 156-player field filled within days, with dozens of players added to a waitlist.
Exemptions were granted to the top 30 finishers and ties from the 2024 Louisiana Mid-Amateur Championship, as well as past champions of the LGA Mid-Amateur, Amateur, and Senior Amateur Championships, and 2024 qualifiers for USGA national championships.
