LAKE CHARLES, LA - The 34th Louisiana Mid-Amateur came to a roaring finish with Shane Fontenot carrying a 5-stroke lead into the final hole over Mason Jacobs and defending champion John Humpries. Fontenot was able to secure the win with a par (4) on 18. He finished his round at an impressive 7 under par (65). Fontenot finished 15 under par totaling 201 strokes over 54 holes with scores of 66,70,65.
Fontenot had an outstanding 9 birdies today. He battled after a double bogey on hole 7 putting him 5 strokes back of the leader Humpries. He did not let that affect his game, he went on to birdie 4 consecutive holes (9-12) gaining the lead on the field. Fontenot said, "After double bogeying hole 7 the pressure was off me; I was able to play free."
Mason Jacobs finished 2nd carding -10 through 54 holes, making four birdies the final round. John Humphries finished third with -8 through 54 holes and 4 birdies during the final round.
The top 20 finishers, including ties, received prize money, while Fontenot took home $1,000 and a custom watch.
Graywood Golf and Racquet Club played to a par 72 at approximately 6,800 yards on Sunday. Superintendent Scott Ledet and his crew had the course in superb condition throughout the event. Special thanks to General Manager Billy Rase, Head Golf Professional Ross Hearing, and former LGA Board Member Dave Kaspar, as well as the entire Graywood staff, for their outstanding hospitality and support in making the event a success.
