A look into the final round of the 33rd Louisiana Mid-Amateur Championship held at Bayou DeSiard in Monroe, Louisiana on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

Monroe, LA - It was a wild, back-and-forth finish at the 33rd Louisiana Mid-Amateur Championship. The top of the leaderboard was in constant motion throughout the final round, but in the end, it was John Humphries of Woodworth who rose to the occasion and claimed the title.

Humphries began the day two shots off the lead, but he came out strong with a 2-under front nine before holding steady with an even-par back nine. His steady play earned him a spot in a sudden-death playoff with Baton Rouge’s Lawrence Allen, who fired a 67 to climb from solo third at 3-under to a share of the lead at 8-under.

The final pairing of Humphries, Allen, and Berthelot kept the crowd on edge all afternoon. Berthelot, who started with the lead, ran into trouble early with two bogeys and a double on the front nine. He rallied late, however, with a birdie on 15 and an eagle on 16, but ultimately finished one shot shy of the playoff.

With the championship on the line, Humphries and Allen returned to the 18th at Bayou DeSiard for the playoff hole. That’s where Humphries delivered the shot of the day, a dramatic 20-foot birdie putt, to secure his victory and etch his name into Louisiana golf history.

This year’s champion will also take home a custom-made jacket from Pearce Bespoke.
