72 players competed in round one of the 26th Louisiana Net Amateur Championship. Tee times for the morning wave began at 7:30 AM off the 1st tee. The final group finished right on time at 3:40 PM. The course played to a par 72 at 6,405 yards for the Mens’ Division and 5197 yards for the Womens’ Division.
Carencro, La. – The opening round of the 26th Louisiana Net Amateur Championship wrapped up Friday at Farm d’Allie Golf Club, and the stage is set for an exciting weekend. Both divisions featured strong play, with familiar names and new faces working their way to the top of the leaderboard.
In the Men’s Division, Carl Lemaire of Sulphur posted a 67 (-5) to grab the early lead. Sitting just one shot back is Jared Fontenot of Lafayette, who turned in a 68 (-4). Josh Rogers of St. Francisville and Mike Pharr of Lafayette are right in the hunt as well after matching rounds of 69 (-3). With only two strokes separating the top four, the leaderboard is packed heading into the final round.
On the women’s side, April Prestenbach of Baton Rouge set the pace with a scorecard of 71 (-1). She’ll take a five-shot cushion into Saturday over Tina Chin-Griffin of Port Allen, who opened with a 76 (+4). Nancy Knapp of Baton Rouge rounds out the top three at 84 (+12).
Plenty of drama unfolded in the flighted competition as well. In the St. Andrews Flight, Josh Rogers of St. Francisville carried over his fine play from the overall division with a 69 (-3), giving him a one-shot edge over both Drew Simon of Duson and Ronnie Averett of Loranger, who each posted 70 (-2).
The Troon Flight has a familiar name on top, as Jared Fontenot of Lafayette is at the top of the leaderboard with is score of 68 (-4). He’ll take a two-stroke lead into round two over Bryan McCullough of Welsh, who opened with a 70 (-2). Tim Faircloth of Bossier City lurks just behind after carding a 71 (-1).
In the Carnoustie Flight, it was Carl Lemaire of Sulphur who set the pace, his 67 (-5) standing as the low round of the day across the entire championship. Mike Pharr of Lafayette kept himself in striking distance with a 69 (-3), while Clifford Makamson and Stephen Dabkowski, both of Bossier City, are tied for third at even-par 72.
With two rounds still to play, the championship is wide open and promises plenty of drama as the weekend unfolds.
The 26th Louisiana Net Amateur Championship is conducted by the Louisiana Golf Association and is being contested at Farm d’Allie Golf Club in Carencro, one of Acadiana’s premier golf venues. The LGA extends its thanks to Farm d’Allie and its staff for hosting this year’s championship.
