Kinder, Louisiana – August 5, 2022

Greg Berthelot of Baton Rouge and Kelsey Angelle of Youngsville lead the 30th Louisiana Mid-Amateur Championship at Koasati Pines at Coushatta. Berthelot and Angelle both carded impressive rounds of five-under par 67. Berthelot continues his strong play in 2022 after winning the 103rd Louisiana Amateur Championship at TPC Louisiana in early June. Angelle is looking to stay ahead of the most talented Mid-Am players in Louisiana. There are four players tied for third at three-under par including 2019 Louisiana Mid-Amateur Champion Derek Busby of Choudrant, Andrew Noto of Metairie, Josh Fullilove of Larose, and Jason Humphries of St Amant.

The LGA offered a skins game to competitors for the first round of play. Greg Berthelot won the only skin during round one with an eagle on the par 5 1st hole. The only skin of the day paid Berthelot $1,050.

Koasati Pines at Coushatta played to a par 72 at approximately 6,873 yards on Friday. The course has received close to an inch of rain the last couple of days, but the maintenance staff led by superintendent Jordan Harrington worked tirelessly to get it in championship condition and it drew positive reviews from competitors. Koasati Pines at Coushatta will also host the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship Qualifier on Monday.

Starting Times will begin again at 7:30 a.m., off both #1 and #10 tees on Saturday. The field will be cut to the low 60 scorers and ties following 36 holes for Sunday’s final round.
